Corporate @ Campus at BIBS: Lessons In Entrepreneurship

Since economic liberalization was ushered in more than a decade ago, India has reached new heights of economic growth. Our economy is strong and resilient and showing signs of consistent progress. Even recent global economic meltdown and recession could not dampen our spirits or turn the tide of steady progress. The key to India’s growing success remains in its young and educated population ready to take up any challenge. This view was echoed by none other than Mr. D.K. Vyas, CEO, SREI BNP Paribas while addressing a room full of future business leaders of India at a seminar organized by Bengal Institute of Business Studies. It was a seminar on future challenges facing the Indian banking and financial sector and Mr. Vyas was of the opinion that India is uniquely placed to take full advantage of future opportunities due to its educated youth. India’s young educated population according to him gives it an edge over all other countries including China.

India after all is the third largest contributor to the growing pool of young scientists, engineers and technicians. The country is known all over the world for its highly educated and talented work force that can be found at helm of corporations and institutions in every nation around the world. This brain drain and adherence to the service sector has however harmed India’s growth in the past. For all inclusive economic and social development, it is imperative to ensure that young intelligent minds are not tempted away by attractive job opportunities abroad. We need to encourage the youth towards entrepreneurship rather than a life of stable but boring employment with a fat salary.

Entrepreneurship is directly related to a country’s economic and social development. Entrepreneurs are those who reject boring and safe job in favour of risky new undertakings that have the potential to become either a huge success or a massive loss. Entrepreneurs reject established knowledge and challenge the set norms to identify new opportunities and transform them into profitable business ventures. Entrepreneurs are the risk takers, boldly venturing into newer pastures where no one has gone before. No matter how you choose to define an entrepreneur, he is closely linked with all that is creative, dynamic and innovative. They are the future leaders of our country determined to usher in a new era of progress and economic development for all, symbolizing a truly shining India.
